beloved and i went to bed early last night. it was well before 11 when we turned off the lights. but then we got to talking ... about when and where and how and with who we'll get married.
we do NOT want a wedding. it's a big enough change that we've decided to tie the knot, but the last thing i want is the traditional wedding - AGAIN. it feels like this time, the right thing to do is make it a private affair. it's a decision we're making. we're accountable to each other.
so we know that whatever we do, it's pretty much going to be just us. the only open question was whether or not the girls will be with us.
we used to say perhaps we'll do it in Europe ... but the residency requirements are CRAZY. we can't do it.
so his new idea has been Niagara Falls. Which is cool to me - i've never been, he's never been, it's a new place for both of us.
his initial idea was april 1. at first, i thought that was fine. but then i thought, you know, i don't think i want to get married on april fool's day. i know that we were super skeptical about jumping onto the marriage bandwagon, but if we're gonna do it, i don't want to be thumbing my nose at it.
So we started looking at different days. beloved liked the idea of having our anniversary being some goofy day that other people know of - like Groundhog Day. It's on February 2, which this year falls on a Friday. It is super-soon, but there isn't much for us to do.
we also thought that if they wanted, we would include the girls.
but now, i'm looking at some photos of niagara falls in february, and i'm wondering .... uh, can we do this?
I mean, that looks COLD.
Now I'm thinking that maybe April 1 isn't such a bad idea? Perhaps it's not really thumbing our nose up at anything?
It is a Sunday this year, though, so it may not work.Labels: holidays, marriage, Niagara Falls, wedding |
