i wonder if they planned it all along? |
Really, there are two options:
1) the Bush administration exists in so much of a bubble that they had no clue that the American people were upset with them until last night, and they were so shocked, that they immediately fired Rummy; or
2) the Bush administration had planned all along to fire Rummy, but decided that they would wait until AFTER Republicans lost in the election (b/c they obviously didn't think firing Rummy would save the elections) so that in 2008, they can point to it as evidence that they had "listened to the people"
or a bonus option:
**By 11:30 a.m. today, Bush, Rove and Cheney were cross-eyed and headachey over all the news coverage and back slapping going toward the Democrats, and quickly did the first thing they could think of to take all the attention back for themselves. |

I'm going for #2 (with the twist of letting him resign) but the bonus option is good too. They already seem to have Rummy's successor picked out, so it must have been in the works for a little while at least.
Considering Rummy can only be described as an arrogant SOB, I hope this really means that the administration is willing to be less pigheaded. But I'm not holding my breath.

I got tears in my eyes when I heard Rusmfeld resigned. I hope things will change and less life will be lost as a result.
