    Fifth Grade is Hard
Poor e. She had a tough day/evening last night.

First, she had play practice after school from 2 to 4:30. Beloved picked her (and j.) up around 5, brought them home, warmed them up some leftovers. I arrived home at approx. 5:50, instructed e. to hurry up and eat (she was eating a LOT of leftover stir fry - b/c it had RICE and she loves rice) and then go change her clothes. I left to pick up our zipcar and came home to her changed, teeth and hair brushed, and almost ready to go. We left the house at 6:26, which was sort of late, and drove to another school in town - I kicked her out of the car with her cello and went to find a parking space. I got into the auditorium, found my friend, and watched 4th, 5th and 6th graders play their string instruments for about 1.5 hours.

Poor e. - she did well, and she practiced a lot over the weekend (even though it should have been WEEK, it was only weekEND). But her cello kept slipping, because unlike other cellos, it has no rubber stopper. We didn't quite think of it as a problem, because both at school and at home, she practices on a carpet. But the concert was on a stage with wood floors. So her cello kept slipping, and she'd have to hike it up and lose her place. She was fine, though.

I kicked her out of the car at home at 8:30 p.m. and I went to return the zipcar. She then had to get out her computer and set herself up at the table and START her homework. At 8:30. She had to do some final edits on an essay she's writing, and then type it. Then she had to finish and type a logic puzzle (the LSAT kind) that she and a partner wrote for her "challenge curriculum" class.

If her assignments were just the normal kind - I would have had her go to bed. But the final draft of an essay she's been working on for a week is not the kind of thing that I'm prone to letting her hand in late. Also, the logic puzzle, I think she put off, and could have done over the weekend.

She went to bed at 10:42.

She looked soooo tired. Even though there have been many evenings that she's been up later than that "just because" --- coming out of her room to pee, or to get water, or to tell me she can't sleep. She looked more tired last night than on those nights.

She did well, though. She worked hard and she didn't complain once.

She tends to be a hard worker. She also seems to be like her momma in that she puts things off and ends up awake later than she should be, but she doesn't couple that with complaints. And her quality of work doesn't seem to suffer.
