Registration Snafu |
i know every school does registration differently. We are able to choose our classes, and register on line for approximately one month. There are some classes that have limited enrollment, and those are done with a quasi-lottery system. When you register gets factored in, and whether you're a 2L or 3L - 3Ls get preference. If you get selected in the lottery, you're in (although if you don't show up on the first day, you lose your spot) - otherwise, you're on the waiting list, and you have to show up on the first day - and if people who made it in don't show up, you get in.
Today they announced the lottery lists. I got into my Security v. Liberty seminar (not the waiting list - I'm just IN), which I am very pleased about. But my Appellate Advocacy class ... I wasn't on the main list or the waiting list. huh? how can that be? I read the list out loud ... to Beloved ... to make sure I wasn't missing myself. Then I went to my registration account to double check that I put in the write course code (which is dumb, b/c I would have noticed if I hadn't - I double checked everything as I registered). Then I bitched and moaned at Beloved for about 10 minutes. Then I e-mailed our registration person with MUCH restraint, KINDLY explaining my situation.
I pushed send, and then bitched and moaned at Beloved some more about the fact that there was NO fix. The only thing that could be done is that they could put me on the waiting list, or else they'd have to take someone else's spot away, and I don't think that's fair either, b/c it's not their fault that I got left off. But since i registered within 30 minutes of the damned opening of registration, and since I'm a third year, I likely SHOULD be in the class. But I couldn't envision a way that they could make that happen while putting forth the appearance of fairness to my classmates ... which I care about.
Beloved was telling me that I shouldn't get worked up - that things always work out (which they do), and that I should just relax, and that he thought I'd get into the class, since it was clear that someone did fuck up. (it was clear).
I then received an e-mail from my admin person. They posted the wrong class list under the title "Appellate Advocacy." It was actually the list for some ADR class, and he was sooooo sorry about the problem, and he was sooooo grateful that I pointed it out to him, and he promises it will be fixed first thing Monday a.m.
I hope I get in. |
