Happy New Year |
a great Eve, and a rather mellow, if not worse, Day. The girls and I went for a walk, and I spent some money on new clothes for them. they are growing. a lot. Thing Two is right now catching up to Thing One, as I knew would happen since the day she was born [at 9 pounds, 12 ounces and 22 inches long] - and they both wear a size 8 pant. we bought books, too. we love books.
On New Years Eve we ate way too much food, had our last hurrah (see below) with some Dr. Pepper and Coke, watched 3 movies (the Love Bug - the 1969 version; Honey, I Shrunk the Kids; and Back to the Future), played 4-5 games - the best being Probe, a strange word/guessing game from Beloved's past that we just LOVE. it's the same idea as Hangman, only there's no killing going on, just points being collected and cards being overturned. beloved clobbered us all b/c he guessed my "candlelight" with many cards unturned, but Thing One kind of beat us all when she had the word "manuals" and none of us could figure it out. beloved and i even went so far as to say OUTLOUD that we think she spelled her word wrong - just b/c we couldn't guess it. we had a GREAT TIME. she was so proud that she stumped us. and it was FUN. Thing Two was the one who finally got it - so there was happiness for all. a really fun memory, to be certain.
We also had a beautiful walk. when we left the house there were very few snowflakes coming down. as we went through the center of town, flakes got bigger, and by the time we got back home, visibility was hampered by the snow. the park we walk through to get to our door had at least an inch covering just in the time we were out walking! it was dark, and cold, and snowy. it was beautiful.
our family-wide resolution - no more High Fructose Corn Syrup in our food. we threw away things in the house that have it, and will be checking labels of things bought in the future. the stuff is in EVERYTHING. we already shop at Whole Foods and Trader Joes, where few things DO have the evil additive.
I need to start exercising again. Just fitting things into my day (i.e., biking to work, getting off the T 2 or 3 stops farther away than I need to) is not cutting the mustard. I don't really know how getting up at 5 a.m. is going to work, either, but until i'm back in school, that's what i'm going to have to try.
on the downer side - Thing Two is having some adjustment issues after her visit with her dad. some fears, some sadnesses. it's tough to have no answers. no real solutions. they actually had a good visit this time - since he was on vacation, and not working, and he brought no work with him. and they were with there very energetic grandparents and aunts, and a puppy. they were, of course, also very thrilled to come back home, and had a great New Years Eve here with us, but at least Thing Two is sharing that she's feeling the pull in two directions, and it's causing her some stress. I gave her lots of hugs, a willing ear, and free reign with the phone. i wish it felt more effective. |

My darling lost 26 pounds with virtually no effort. He cut out the sugar (only dark choc. at night) and watched portions. He worked out twice a week. He looks great. I am inspired to lose the last 8 baby pounds.
I am trying to grab a huge glass of water instead of food when I feel like picking.
Thanks again for hte great conversation last night.

Almost 10 lbs?!? Ow.
Good luck with the corn syrup project. You'll need it.
